The Practice
Surgical Oncology Associates is a specialized Surgical practice, located in the Greater New Orleans area. While covering all aspects of General Surgery, the practice boasts a unique specialist expertise in Oncological Surgery. In-patients are cared for at the highest quality Medical Centers within the area.
The Specialty
In recent years, demand has increased across the country for specialists in Surgical Oncology, as informed patients become more aware of their options. Surgical Oncologists have become recognized for their specialist expertise in the following:
- Thyroid cancer and melanoma
- Breast carcinoma and DCIS of the breast
- Lung neoplasms
- Esophago-gastric cancer
- Colo-rectal carcinoma
- Pancreatic and hepato-biliary cancer
- Abdominal and peripheral sarcomas
- Surgical Oncologists are considered specialists in the following:
- Sentinel Node Biopsy
- Other intra-operative tumor detection/localization techniques
- The more technically challenging oncology resections
- The more difficult (redo) recurrences
- Metastectomy, particularly of liver and lung lesions.
With only a handful of these specialists available within the States of Louisiana and Mississippi, we are pleased to offer state of the art surgical oncology care.
The Focus
Surgical Oncology Associates will, therefore, have a particular interest and emphasis on providing state of the art Surgical Oncology care in all of the above sites. The practice seeks to position itself as a referral resource for the region as a whole, providing services ranging from comprehensive care to just a second opinion . . .
There will be a focus on:
- Esophagectomy for esophageal cancer
- Whipple pancreatico-duodenectomy for cancer of the pancreas
- Liver resection for primary and metastatic cancer,
- Radio-frequency ablation (RFA) of liver and other tumors
- Resection of bile duct tumors
- Resection of lung, breast and colo-rectal cancer
- Sarcoma and thyroid neoplasms.
- Metastectomy of liver and lung lesions
Dr. Boyle is also an expert in sentinel node biopsy for melanoma and breast cancer, and is currently developing a technique for laparoscopic sentinel node biopsy for GI malignncy.
